Committed Relationship: 7 Signs You’re Not Wasting Your Time

Committed Relationship: 7 Signs You’re Not Wasting Your Time

Are you in a committed relationship? Or are you just imagining things because you want this to last so badly?

In this day and age, many people aren’t that keen to commit. This culture perpetuates casual relationships and doesn’t give commitment the respect it deserves.

So, finding a partner who’s ready to settle down with you is hard. Especially when you’re only looking for a serious relationship, and you know what you want to get out of life.

You don’t want to play around, and that can be quite intimidating to people. They may think that you’re coming off too strong or you’re too demanding.

In actuality, you just know what you’re looking for. A one-night stand definitely isn’t on your bucket list.

Which is why you’re here. You want to see the signs that you’re in a committed relationship, so you don’t have to waste your time on someone who doesn’t want to stay.

What is a committed relationship?

Committed Relationship: 7 Signs You're Not Wasting Your Time

A committed relationship is a relationship where both partners want to be together for the long run, and they communicate as much to the other party. There’s a mutual understanding when you’re communicating your wants and needs, and you’re actively trying to plan your future together.

The structure of your relationship isn’t that important. What is important is that you’re both ready to work on creating a healthy environment for your love to blossom.

This type of relationship is characterized by the fact that you choose each other every single day. Even on those days when things are hard and you’re exhausted. You welcome change, and you’re willing to work things out, no matter how hard it may be at first.

Commitment doesn’t mean that you’re stuck in a cage. It actually means that you discuss the wants and needs that you both may have, and you find ways to implement them into your life.

You see a future together, you want to build a home together. You want to stay faithful to each other “until death do us part”.

7 signs you’re in a committed relationship

1. You’re planning your future together

Once your partner starts using “we” statements, you know that you’re in a committed relationship. You’re making actual plans for the future because you know that this is for the long haul!

He makes sure to always involve you in his plans. It doesn’t matter if it’s the dinner that he has tomorrow night with his colleagues, or if it’s wedding plans. He made a commitment to you, which means that he’ll ask you for your opinion on things.

A man who’s serious about you wouldn’t buy a house without consulting you first. He’s telling you how he’s imagining your kids to look like, and what he wants your future to be like. He’s not playing around when he starts talking about these things!

But most importantly, it doesn’t just stay at a conversation. He’s the type of man who’ll make sure that all of those dreams and plans come true. He sticks to his word!

You’re planning your future together because this relationship is going to last. You wouldn’t be doing this if your relationship was just something casual.

2. You have deep conversations

I know what you’re thinking. You’ve probably had deep conversations with people before, and those people didn’t bother to stay!

However, this feels different. You can see that your partner is actually making an effort to listen to you, to keep the conversation going, and he thinks about it long after the conversation is done.

You can talk about your feelings, your ambitions, and even your expectations of this relationship. You’re not being judged, nor do you feel like you have to hold back when you’re talking.

This only happens when there’s a genuine connection between two people. This is a sign that you’re in a committed relationship – neither of you would put so much effort into it if it was nothing more than a fleeting interest.

3. You portray each other positively

Why would this be a sign that you’re in a committed relationship? It seems like such an obvious thing. Why would you want to portray your partner badly?

Well, not everyone thinks the way you do. I’m sure you’ve listened to your friends talk badly about their partners before, and it made you feel uncomfortable.

This is the man that you want to marry and spend the rest of your life with. He’s the love of your life and the father of your future children!

Everyone has flaws, but you’re not going to air out dirty laundry just because you’re upset. You’re able to communicate these things with your partner, which means that you won’t feel the need to talk badly about him to anyone.

Also, you heard the way he’s talking about you. He speaks of you as if you put all the stars in the sky. If this isn’t a sign of commitment, then I don’t know what is.

4. You meet each other’s needs

In committed relationships, it’s very important to understand that you have to meet each other’s needs. Wants and needs aren’t that different, but sometimes our wants can be put to the side to accommodate someone else.

It’s the most humane thing to do in a committed relationship. You don’t want to put your partner in a position where he has to ignore what he needs to make your wants happen. And vice versa!

Commitment is all about finding the balance between these two. It’s about understanding that you have to compromise sometimes in order for your relationship to stay healthy!

This is one of the biggest signs that your relationship is going to last.

5. You’re both disinterested in anyone else

I know that there are many different relationship types out there. So many people choose against monogamy. While they can also maintain a healthy and committed relationship, it’s much different from a monogamous relationship.

I believe that if you’re in a committed relationship, you don’t have eyes for anyone else. You don’t feel like you need someone else physically or romantically to make you feel happy.

All you need is your partner and their presence. When you’re truly in love, no one else interests you. And your partner feels the same way, which he makes abundantly clear.

You can see it in the way he introduces you as his girl wherever you go. He goes to great lengths to make sure that you feel comfortable, which also includes blocking or unfollowing women online. He doesn’t need their approval! All he needs is his partner.

He knows that being disloyal only means that he’ll lose you, so why would he risk that? This is genuinely why a committed relationship is such a magical thing.

6. You meet each other’s families

Beware of the guy who says that he doesn’t feel comfortable meeting your parents. This man doesn’t plan on staying! Why would he want to introduce you to his family or meet yours if he’s planning to leave you at some point?!

If you’re in a committed relationship, you’ll meet each other’s families fairly quickly. You want your parents to meet the man that’s making you so happy!

He’ll also want to introduce you to his family so that they know you’re here to stay!

Someone who continuously tries to hide your relationship or avoids introducing you to their near and dear ones isn’t someone who’ll stay there for long. He’s just avoiding the inevitable. Even when you ask him about it, he simply brushes it off and tells you that you’re pushing his boundaries.

This isn’t a boundary, this is a red flag.

7. You’re both going out of your way to make it work

Committed Relationship: 7 Signs You're Not Wasting Your Time

A committed relationship requires just as much work as any other relationship. It’s important to understand that two people who plan on staying together, simply have to work things through!

You can’t just expect your partner to change everything about himself when you’re not interested in changing at all! It’s a team effort and you both have to put in the work!

That’s what makes these relationships so healthy. You know that there are things that you have to work on in order to have the quality of life that you’ve always dreamed of.

If this isn’t a committed relationship, then you’ll both find ways to avoid any type of progress. You won’t want to change because you know that this isn’t going to last. There’s no point changing something about yourself for someone who isn’t a part of your future, right?

However, a healthy and committed relationship will inspire you to change. Your partner will never force you into things that you don’t want to do, but you’ll actually feel happy to do these things for him.

It’s such a beautiful thing to have two people who are able to hear feedback without taking it personally. These people will show the world what love is supposed to look like!
