How to forget about someone who was once in your life? Someone who meant the world to you can’t just magically disappear from your mind and your heart.
Your past relationship was something that you thought would last forever. You didn’t think, even for one second, that things would turn out the way they did. To put things simply, you’re devastated.
Your ex-boyfriend is somewhere out there, living his best life, while you’re here trying to forget about everything. You don’t want to remember the good times or the bad times. Those memories have to stay in the past if you want to move on.
Well, I can promise you that by the end of this, if you choose to follow this advice, you’ll forget about him. If anything, you’ll be able to go through an entire day without thinking about him.
You’re plagued with the thoughts of what was and what could’ve been. There is not one part of you that’s able to let go of your past right now, so you need quick intervention.
How do you forget about someone? Will you ever be able to simply continue your life without these memories? Well, I’m sure that I can help you – even if it’s just a little bit.
How to forget about someone that you love?
1. Make a decision to forget about him
How to forget about someone when all you can do is think about him and talk about him? Wherever you go, you’re thinking about him, and everyone seems to be aware of it. It’s like a shadow that continues to follow you around.
Well, the first step to forgetting about his existence is to make the conscious decision that you want to forget.
What does this mean, and how can it help you?
Well, once you decide that you’re ready to forget about your past relationship, you have to make the decision. Tell yourself that you’re forgetting about him.
This sounds bizarre, but bear with me. The placebo effect is much stronger than you may think.
Also, if you’ve made this decision consciously, then you have nothing to worry about. Every time he crosses your mind, you’ll stop your stream of thoughts.
If someone starts talking about him, you’ll either tune out of the conversation or you’ll tell those people to shut up. You’re setting this boundary because you don’t want to be reminded of him, and you have every right to do this.
Once you’ve made this decision, the next steps will be much easier.
2. Go out and try having fun
You’re probably asking yourself, “Is this her answer to my question of how to forget about someone?!”
Well, it is.
Having a lot of fun with your friends and family can help you forget about someone. Once you’re dancing in the club, you’ll feel good about yourself again.
The loud music and the conversations will give you the possibility to empty your mind and simply enjoy your night. You may not feel like dancing, but trust me – once you start, everything will be much better.
Getting out of your house will also get you out of your head. I know that you feel like nothing can make you forget, but this is a tried-and-true method that people swear by. Simply going out and having fun will give you a boost in serotonin and confidence that will make the sadness fall into the background.
Even though that seems like a short-term solution at first, we have to start somewhere.
3. Make new memories
When all you can do is think about him, getting out of your house sounds like torture.
However, how about you try and make new memories? What was something that you always wanted to do but didn’t get around to? Is there something you miss doing or something new that you want to try?
Well, there are so many different things that you can do if you genuinely want to get out of that stream of thought.
Especially, if you’re prepared to experience a little bit of adrenaline. You won’t remember him, I can promise you that.
Go rock-climbing, find a zip-line, try hiking a trail that you’ve never done before. I know that these extreme sports aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, but the adrenaline rush will make you think about your life rather than your ex.
Sounds brutal? Well, it is.
But it works.
4. Get rid of everything that reminds you of him
Okay, you probably weren’t looking forward to this part. When you want to know how to get over someone you love so dearly, you have to understand that these answers may hurt.
So, get rid of everything. What do you have in your home that reminds you of him? Do you have gifts from him, pictures, or even things that you bought for him that you didn’t get around to giving him?
Whatever it may be, if it reminds you of him, let it go. Usually, I’d say to simply put it in a box and out of sight, but it’s very important to get it out of your home.
You can use this and create some sort of ritual that will help you move on quickly. I mean, burning things that you got from him does sound therapeutic, doesn’t it?
5. Block him
The next step on your “forgetting about him” journey involves blocking him.
You’re probably clutching your phone right now and refusing to do this, but hey, you’re miserable right now. You’re the one who’s completely losing her mind over him, while he’s out there already taking another girl home.
Doesn’t that sound like the perfect reason to deny him any type of access to you? Or would you rather watch his photos for the rest of your life and mourn over it? No, stop that. Who freaking does that?
Just block him. Get it over with.
6. Meet new people
When I tell you that you need to meet new people, this doesn’t mean that you should change your entire friend group. No.
What I’m telling you is that you need to find new people who will tell you new stories and take you on new adventures. You can’t just sit back and relax while everyone else is going on with their lives.
Meeting new people will give you the opportunity to hear different opinions on the world. You can even talk to them about relationships and listen to what they have to say.
Once you start meeting new people, you’ll understand that your relationship wasn’t that good for you to begin with. There are better people out there and their stories will inspire you.
At one point in time, you may even feel like your brain capacity doesn’t allow you to think about him anymore. You’ll think about your new friends, or maybe even your new boyfriend (you never know).
7. Focus on self-improvement
Well, once you start working on yourself, moving on from people becomes quite easy.
You need to work on yourself in departments that you always wanted to. For example, if you want to take a painting or singing class, it’s the perfect time to do that! If you want to go to the gym or try out new sports to become strong, then finally do it!
You can also work on your career and see where the corporate world takes you.
This is important because you can start meeting new people, you’ll have new experiences, you’ll have new memories. While also becoming a much better version of yourself.
You can even bring therapy into this. Therapy is a great way to work on yourself while having a long-term goal. Setting those goals and sticking to them will be the perfect drive forward.
8. Stop talking about him
Lastly, please stop talking about him. If you want to understand how to forget about someone, you also need to understand that you can’t keep mentioning him wherever you go.
Your friends will get tired of you, but you’ll also become more sensitive. When you continuously talk about him, you have no time to forget him. You don’t even have a moment to yourself!
I know that it’s hard at the beginning. I’m not telling you that you should stop mentioning him right away.
Your friends probably still want to know what’s happening. Your family is asking you millions of questions.
Also, your entire body remembers him and his touch. You can still remember the color of his eyes and the way his voice sounds!
I mean, all of those things won’t simply leave your brain. Which means you’ll need to talk about it.
However, as time goes by, please set some rules for yourself. At one point, talking about him will become toxic to you and the relationships that you have.
Rather than wasting your time on these conversations that never have a happy ending, you should talk about things that actually have some meaning.
After a while, your life will gain its meaning once again.
