It’s the dead of winter, and I don’t know about you, but the last thing I want to do when it’s zero degrees is go outside. I don’t want to be social, and I definitely don’t want to find a cute but uncomfortable outfit that will not keep me warm and stumble around to clubs or bars.

Sometimes the best weekend plans are staying at home where it’s cozy and warm. You have a great excuse to get out of plans, and it will certainly refresh your mind and body. We all need an alcohol break sometimes, and now that it’s January and we’re all trying to detox and get healthy, why not stay in for a night and give yourself some well deserved R&R?

If you plan on staying in for some me-time this weekend, here are a few ideas for pampering yourself.

Take a bubble bath.

This is the single most relaxing way to spend your Saturday night. Get yourself ready by lighting some candles, popping open a bottle of wine, turning on soothing music, and prepping the water with salts and oils. When all of the bubbles have expanded, dip yourself in, lay back, and enjoy.

Do a face mask.

If you really want to amp up your relaxation, do the face mask while you’re in the bath. The steam from the bath will open up your pores and allow the mask to rejuvenate your skin. Your mind will feel clearer and the total relaxation will help you de-stress from the week.  

Do a hair mask.

Bubble baths can leave your skin dry, especially in the winter months. Take a shower after your bath to wash off all of the soapy bubbles and oils. Then, treat your hair to a deep conditioning mask. Be sure to moisturize your skin after the shower, and rinse out the mask before your hair starts to get dry.

Open up a good book.

Nowadays, we all suffer from screen addiction—whether you watch too much TV, scroll on your phone, play on your laptop, or all three at the same time. Take some time to turn off your devices and pick up a good book. Read and get yourself sucked into a new story that you can’t put down. It will certainly lower anxiety, and you won’t be connected and subjected to potential fear of missing out.

Snuggle up for a movie with some hot tea.

If you’re not in the mood for a book, make yourself a hot cup of tea, find a fluffy blanket, and curl up in front of one of your old favorites or get into something new. Personally, I recommend anything old Hollywood or any Audrey Hepburn movie.

Paint your toes.

Even though you won’t be wearing open-toed shoes any time soon, it’s still fun to see cute toes in between changing your fuzzy socks and the occasional day you go for yoga. It may not be flip-flop season, but it’s still important to keep your feet looking cute. Pick out a happy color or even something dark and classy.

Stretch.

This is kind of random, but sometimes it feels good to give your muscles a good stretch. Especially in the midst of all that relaxing and lounging, it will feel nice to move around a bit and increase the blood flow around your body.

Listen to music and dance around.

The best way to dance like nobody’s watching is to literally dance while no one else is around to see you. Put on your favorite 90s boy band or guilty pleasure throwbacks and have a dance party in your room.

Cook a delicious dinner.  

Read: comfort food. Make yourself something you absolutely love. Mac and cheese, french onion soup, and lasagna are all solid choices for a cozy night at home. You don’t have to worry about squeezing into a tiny skirt or tight jeans so eat to fill your heart’s desire.

Organize your room.

Your room won’t be a disaster zone come Sunday morning because you didn’t have to fight with your closet to find a good going-out outfit. Take advantage of the relative cleanliness (or at least the lack of clothes strewn across the floor) and organize your space to make it pretty and looking new.
