8 Signs That Will Tell You Whether You’re An INFJ – The Rarest Personality Type
Many of you might have seen the latest buzzword in social media about INFJ from 16 Myers-Briggs Personality Types. The reason INFJ has been doing the rounds everywhere is because it is the rarest type of personality existing only in about 2% of the world’s population.
Based on prominent psychoanalyst Carl Jung’s typological theories, the 16 Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Test categories individuals in 4 major personality types –
1. Extroversion versus Introversion
2. Sensing versus Intuition
3. Thinking versus Feeling
4. Judging versus Perceiving
As can be inferred, the INFJ is a personality type that is Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling and Judging. Individuals with INFJ personality are reserved and difficult to spot.
INFJ individuals make for organized workers, loyal friends, exceptional leaders and empathetic human beings striving each day, in their own way, to make the world a better place.
Below given are 8 signs that are central to an INFJ personality. If you have a feeling that you are one but aren’t sure, then this article is for you.
1. You seek the genuine meaning of everything:
Getting involved in an extravagant gesture or a grandiose tale which does not have an iota of truth in it is not really your cup of tea. You ultimately seek insight and in-depth understanding of everything and can identify a manipulator or a phony in no time.
You also love traveling and adventurous experiences which bring you closer to self-reflection and a greater awareness of intricacies of life.
2. You have an intense and unwavering conviction of the world:
You hold certain intense and deep-seated beliefs about the world and the society and how they should operate. You try your best to align your relationship or career with this moral compass.
If it doesn’t work out, you prefer abandoning the relationship or the career but not your principles.
3. You avoid small talk:
Similar to the trait of seeking truth and meaning is the attribute of avoiding everything that’s not bona fide. You find small talk draining and worthless. Small talk, for you, is just a filler; intended to fill gaps in a conversation without actually revealing anything about the person involved.
You prefer discussing how a cake recipe reminded you of your grandmother or why you support certain social causes over contemplating whether or not it will rain today.
4. You make people around you feel comfortable:
You’ve had plenty of experiences where a stranger sat down next to you and within a few minutes, started disclosing his or her most personal fears, dreams and secrets to you.
Making people feel comfortable in your presence is a quality that comes naturally to you. You are not consciously striving to achieve that. The fact that you are a trusted confidant and great listener makes people want to connect with you at a deeper level.
5. You are an introvert and an extrovert:
You are sometimes the life of a party and you are good at delivering funny or emotional speeches in front of thousands of people. You are a social chameleon who can blend in any kind of social situation.
And yet, being in a crowd is exhausting for you. You like to retreat to a quiet place eventually to ‘recharge your battery’ once mingling with so many people has drained you out completely.
6. You prefer working alone and maintain a small but close friend circle:
You might have many acquaintances but you are choosy when it comes to picking close friends. A close friend for you is someone who will be your friend for life.
Over years, you have developed this small friend circle you are extremely devoted to. They are a strong support system for you as you are for them, regardless of how much time has elapsed since you last interacted with them.
7. You have superior creative and language skills:
You have an array of skills and hobbies that keep you company when you are alone. You are best able to express your emotions with a pen and paper or through art. Not surprisingly, many successful writers and artists have been found to have an INFJ personality.
8. You are always ten steps ahead of everyone else:
You focus on the goal that can be achieved by completing the task at hand. Yes, you will need people to bring you back to reality from your occasional trips to your dreamland; and yet, it is always you who can see the bigger picture and aspire to get there when no one else can.
