Today’s dating world is full of fake relationships and pseudo-love. You can blame it on social media, dozens of dating apps, whatever else you can think of, but the fact is that fake relationships are the worst.
You’d never guess that someone is stuck in that kind of a relationship. And you’d never know they were putting up a front.
When you scroll through your social media feed, you see hundreds of photos of couples kissing and being affectionate toward each other – only to find out that they’re not. They’re putting on a show for others to believe in their lies.
So, how can you tell if you’re in a fake relationship? Well, if you’re looking from the outside, a fake relationship seems like any other happy couple in love. But from the inside, they both know something isn’t right and one of them is faking their love.
You sense when you’re stuck with someone who is pretending to love you. Perhaps you’re not able to see it right from the start, but eventually, when you want to take your relationship to another level, that’s when you realize you’ve been wrong all along.
There will be a hole inside your heart that isn’t being fulfilled by your partner’s love for you. You’ll feel empty and lonely even though you’ve committed to your significant other. There won’t be any romantic gestures or gentle touches. Instead, your relationship will feel shallow and basic.
How to tell if you’re in a fake relationship
It’s very difficult to see and accept the signs you’re in a fake relationship. We give our best to be loved by the person who means the world to us, but our feelings aren’t always reciprocated.
Therefore, if you notice any of the following signs, it’s better to leave your partner and save yourself from heartbreak.
1. You lack emotional intimacy
Tell me, does your partner ask you questions? Does he initiate conversations and show a burning desire to get to know you as a whole? If not, then perhaps he’s not the man for you and you were wrong about his feelings all this time.
One of the clear signs of a fake relationship is when someone doesn’t even bother to know you on a deeper level. They only cruise the surface and know the basic stuff about you because that’s all they need to keep you around.
But without emotional intimacy, your relationship will never progress to a more serious level. And who knows, perhaps your partner tells others that you’re FWB and nothing more.
2. You adapt to your partner’s wishes
His lack of commitment or inability to show you any genuine affection is taking a toll on your mental health. It probably causes you to try different things to get him to love you back.
But genuine love isn’t like that at all. When someone’s love is sincere, that person will accept you as you are and won’t expect you to change anything about yourself.
That man will consider your flaws and quirks to be unique and special, and won’t force you to change them. You won’t have to adapt to your partner’s wishes just to please him.
You owe it to yourself to always show your true colors, no matter what he thinks about you. A real man will respect you for it and love every part of you.
3. You can’t rely on him
Still unsure if you’re in a fake relationship? Well, do you consider him to be your anchor and biggest supporter? If not, then he’s unfortunately pretending to love you.
His lack of accountability is destroying the connection you thought you had with him and is making you doubt his intentions.
You know he isn’t putting much effort into your relationship, but you still hope that one day he’ll change for the better. You reckon if you try a bit harder, your love for him would ignite the spark. But unfortunately, that won’t happen.
This relationship has caused you to have trust issues and that’s exactly how you know that he’s faking his love. You can’t rely on him to be there for you when you need him. And you can’t ask him to help you because deep down you know that his feelings for you aren’t real.
4. His words are empty
How to tell if you’re in a fake relationship? He may send you a sweet and loving text message, saying how much he cares about you and how he misses you. But do those words match his actions? Does he show you in person that he loves you and that you’re his number one priority?
If not, then you’re in a fake relationship and he’s only pretending to want you. A person who has true feelings for you will rather prove that through his actions and not just express it in words.
But this man is saying one thing yet meaning another. So, why would anyone in their right mind stay with a man who seems like he has split personalities? Haven’t you had enough of his empty promises and half-truths?
5. He doesn’t make any future plans with you
If he avoids talking to you whenever you’re trying to make any future plans with him, then you know you’re in a fake relationship and he’s probably going to end up hurting you.
Truthfully, he doesn’t want to have “the talk” with you because he knows you won’t be together forever. He isn’t there for the long haul and it’s very likely that he’s only using you to pass his time.
6. He always seems bored
How to tell if you’re in a fake relationship? You feel when someone’s not into you. His lack of excitement to see you or plan your next date is a definite sign you’re in a fake relationship.
It’s unbearable to you that he’s bored in your relationship, so you try your hardest to entertain him however you can. But that’s when you start losing your identity – something that should never happen in a relationship.
If you notice that he isn’t putting any time or effort into being spontaneous and creating new memories with you, then you should leave him and search for your happiness elsewhere.
