Everyone has their own understanding of what it means to have friendship goals.
There has even been a trend going around with the hashtag #friendshipgoals that people post under the pictures with their friends.
What does the term friendship goals mean to you and your friends?
It doesn’t matter whether you and the friend you’re thinking of have been besties since high school or you’ve just recently met and hit it off together, you can still have goals for your friendship.
Friendship goals are different from relationship goals, but they still carry the same essence.
To secure yourself a long-lasting friendship and have a strong bond with your friend, you will have to be able to set certain goals for both of you.
What is considered #friendshipgoals?
When other people look at you and your friend, is their immediate thought that they wished they had a friendship like yours?
It’s easy to spot people who have a valuable and strong friendship. Those people radiate confidence that is shown through their every move.
Are you and your friend what other people consider to be friendship goals?
1. You always have each other’s friend’s back
You and your friend probably insult each other on the regular, it’s just the way the two of you are. However, no one else has that privilege.
You and your friend always have each other’s back and you don’t let people mess around with you.
When someone tries to have a go at your friend, you immediately defend them and you’re on your friend’s side.
Not many people have someone to stick up for them when they are in trouble and that is truly what true friends are for.
You and your friend look so powerful when you defend each other like this.
2. You appreciate each other
You see each other as family members and you appreciate each other’s presence in your life.
That can be seen through all of your actions, whether it’s showing affection through hugs or through little gifts you give each other.
You always find a way to show your friend how much you appreciate them.
It doesn’t matter whether you are or aren’t vocal about your love for each other, as you’re always able to let them know in some way.
3. You spend all of your free time together
Even if you two have your own lives going on, you still find time to meet up and stay in touch.
You know that if you’ve been busy for a few days that the best person to see to recharge your batteries is your best friend.
You go to clubs together, you meet for lunch or you just plan random road trips because you’re both adventurous.
It’s really never boring when you’re with your best friend and that is exactly why you spend so much of your time with them.
You wouldn’t do this if they weren’t a good friend.
4. You have your own lives
Is there anything more powerful than two people who enjoy each other’s company while at the same time conquering their own lives?
You and your friend are going after your respective careers and you’re both out there winning in your fields of work.
There is nothing more empowering than having someone who is just as driven as you are to achieve their dreams.
That’s why your friendship is so special. You have enough space to work on yourself while still maintaining an amazing friendship.
You two find a way to combine your crazy lives and maintain a good friendship.
5. You are both able to be yourselves
The most important thing about the people you surround yourself with is to consider whether you’re able to be yourself around them.
We are human beings who simply need this type of freedom.
You need to be able to be yourself around your friend to actually enjoy their company.
When people see you together, they see two amazing individuals who don’t let their differences stop them from being the best of friends.
Rather than that, you embrace your differences.
6. You are each other’s biggest support system
When things get tough, you know whom to call. You have that one special person on speed dial and it’s been like that for a long period of time now.
You and your friend are each other’s biggest support system.
Whenever you have trouble at work or with your boyfriend, your friend is there to buy you that pint of ice cream and talk through the night.
If that isn’t the ultimate friendship goal then I don’t know what is. Having a strong support system like this is a true blessing.
7. You talk openly about intimate things
There is nothing that you can’t tell your best friend. You share all your secrets and you don’t have a filter in front of them.
You may talk about the way your boyfriend doesn’t know how to kiss or the things you’re insecure about.
Your friend won’t judge you for your insecurities. You don’t have to choose your words around them.
That friend of yours knows too many of your secrets and when you think about everything you have told them, they have the possibility to embarrass you.
However, you know they won’t do that. Your trust in them is immeasurable and they are your confidante.
8. You never go after the same man
If someone goes after the same man as you, even if you told them you liked him first, then they aren’t your friend.
However, you and your friend have established healthy boundaries and you would never go after the same guy.
You draw the line when it comes to dating the same men because that is just calling for unnecessary drama. You value your friendship enough.
On the other hand, you do try to hook your friend up with his handsome brother or friend if the situation calls for it.
When you hear about all those backstabbing ‘friends’ who can’t keep their hands off a man their friend is interested in, you’re disgusted.
You know that you and your friend would never find yourself in a situation like that. Being a traitor really isn’t cute.
9. Silence is never uncomfortable between the two of you
You know that someone is your soulmate when the silence you share isn’t uncomfortable.
You and your friend can sit beside each other for hours and read books or scroll through social media without feeling weird about it.
Your closest friends won’t push you to talk about things if you don’t feel like it.
It’s good to know that even your oldest friends know that there are things you don’t want to talk about.
This what you have is true friendship. You and your BFF can be silent for hours and you’d still understand each other.
10. You can call them out on their behavior
The best friendship isn’t just one where you share happy moments.
There will be so many fights that the two of you will go through that will only strengthen your friendship.
You know that your friend will confront you and call you out when you do something wrong and that also means that you’ll do the same thing in return.
You need to keep each other in check sometimes.
There will be times when one of you will say something hurtful to the other and that’s when you’ll have to apologize.
You are also more than able to yell at them for going back to that toxic ex of theirs. You two need to be able to call each other out if something isn’t OK.
That is true friendship goals.
11. You can’t stay mad for long
Even when you do fight with your bestie, you know that they will stay by your side.
You can’t stay mad at each other for too long and your good friend will be there next to you in a matter of days, if not hours.
That is exactly when you know that you two are soulmates. You aren’t able to stay away from each other for too long.
Because you respect each other so much, you will never do something detrimental to your friendship.
You are always able to talk things through. Staying away from them is just painful and you would like to get rid of the tension as soon as possible.
The reason why your friendship really works so well is that they are the same.
Your best friend will come and apologize whenever they know they’re wrong. No new friends will be able to understand your bond.
12. You have gone through a lot together
The best friendship goals for other people is when you and your bestie can go through lots of ups and downs but remain good friends.
You have probably seen them cry so many times that you have lost count and they have been there for you in your most desperate times.
You have laughed together, cried together, and gotten into trouble together. That is exactly why you’re still such good friends.
You have seen each other at your worst and you remained the best of friends.
The positivity that you two radiate is one of the reasons why nothing could bring you down for too long.
Short-term friendship goals
For you to take your friendship to another level, I would recommend you two make short-term and long-term goals.
A short-term goal is something that you want to achieve this week, this month, or this year. It’s something in your near future.
When you set friendship goals, you have something to look forward to and you will make things much more fun for you and your friend.
1. Make a bucket list
The first step is to make a bucket list. You don’t even have to be in the same room to do this.
Set aside a time with your friend to make a bucket list with all the things you want to achieve in your life together.
There must be things you want to achieve together that you have thought about for a long time now.
That’s why you need to put it down on paper. This way, you will be taking one step further to making it a reality.
2. Spend New Year’s Eve together
Even if you and your friend aren’t able to see each other on New Year’s Eve, you should at least try to video chat.
Get your wine out, put your fuzzy socks on, and spend the New Year with your friend. You can chat the night away.
However, if you want to go out, make sure that your bestie is involved somehow.
You can rent out a place with a group of close friends and you can all have an amazing time.
It might seem like a normal thing to you, but many people forget how important it is to spend holidays with your best friend.
3. Make them a care basket
A care basket is an adorable way to show someone how much you appreciate them.
You don’t even have to spend a lot of money on it if you don’t want to.
Fill the care basket with treats your bestie likes and maybe something they have wanted to receive for a while now.
You know your best friend very well so you should know what will make them the happiest.
Gift them all the things that made you think of them. I can promise you that your friend will appreciate the gesture and they will be extremely grateful.
You can even make a pact to make these for each other so that both of you get a present.
4. Go on a picnic
Picnics are amazing when you want to do something different with your bestie.
You can do this for your friendship every once in a while because it really does mean a lot.
The best part about it is that you can go one step further and prepare the food together.
Spend the morning preparing so that you can spend the rest of the day enjoying your picnic together.
You can both take along a book to read or figure out something else to do so that you can enjoy being together while still have something else to do if the conversation dies down.
This is an amazing way to strengthen your friendship!
5. Work out together
You can’t tell me that working out together with your best friend wouldn’t be more motivating than working out alone.
You can be each other’s biggest motivators and you can track your progress together.
When you work out together, it’s like you’re starting a little project. You’re working together on a common goal.
It’s very special and if working out is one of your friendship goals, you can always find a way to incorporate it into your busy schedules.
6. Have a pamper night with your best friend
Have a pamper night with your friend! It can even be an entire day where you go to a spa and get manicures and pedicures.
You both deserve to spoil yourself every once in a while so why wouldn’t you go and treat yourself?
There is even the option of going home after a day of pampering and getting takeout food and then finishing the day with an amazing movie that both of you will enjoy.
You and your friend deserve a day like this every once in a while, especially in a world where we’re constantly so stressed and life is just so hectic.
You both deserve a day like this. If you don’t get to do this often, you can even set aside one day per month to spend like this.
Long-term friendship goals
A long-term goal is something you want to accomplish in the future and goals like these require time and a lot of planning.
Long-term plans are almost always years away. You and your friend do plan to stay friends for a long period of time, I presume?
1. Plan a trip together
Is there a certain destination you and your friend always wanted to visit but you simply haven’t gotten around to doing that?
Somehow it is always too expensive or life gets in the way.
Well, this is your perfect moment to start planning that trip together and begin saving up for it.
You can make a deal on how much money you want to put aside each month so you can go and visit that destination you so dearly want to explore.
There is nothing stopping you. You and your bestie deserve this trip, you just have to work a little bit harder for it.
2. Start a new hobby
I put this into the long-term friendship goals because you and your bestie don’t just have to share one hobby.
In the future, whenever you miss each other, you can start a new course or interest together.
You can work on bettering yourself while still spending time together.
You don’t have to start a new hobby tomorrow and you may end up hating it but give yourself options. Figure out what you want to work on.
Do you guys want to learn a new skill? Do you want to learn a new language?
Is there something you have been dying to try but you simply haven’t gotten around to doing it?
3. Work on your health
This is something that is good for your friendship just as much as it is for your personal life.
You can make a long-term goal to work on your health together. This might seem extremely random to you, but think about it.
Whenever you have tried to live a healthier lifestyle, you probably slipped because you fell into the trap of junk food or lying around.
If you and your friend want to become healthier and you want to become a better version of yourself, then this is a great goal to have.
Friendship goals don’t always have to be something extreme or something adrenaline-inducing.
You might as well work on your health together. Make a plan and motivate each other.
4. Make a list of fears and conquer them together
I know I said before that your friendship goals don’t have to be adrenaline-inducing, but why not organize something that you will remember forever?
Is one of you scared of heights? Is the other scared of snakes?
Go together to the zoo and see the snakes from a safe distance. Go sky diving!
Before you call me crazy, hear me out; what’s better than conquering these fears with your best friend?
Your friendship goals should be something that you wouldn’t want to experience with anyone else, but you know that you and your friend would be happy sharing these adventures.
5. Move in together
If you and your best friend haven’t lived together yet, then you should probably put it on your list of friendship goals for the future.
Make a plan of how, when and where you can move in together.
Are you both going to college soon? Are you both working but still live with your parents because it’s convenient?
Just move in together. Find a place that is nice but still within your budget and live your life.
You can even put this at the top of your friendship goals list. Everyone should live with their best friend at least once!
Friends are something extremely precious, so when you have someone who is your best friend and soulmate, you want to do anything to keep them around.
You both put so much effort into your friendship, so when other people see you together, in their eyes, you’re #friendshipgoals.
However, you need to always think outside the box and find things that the two of you can enjoy together.
When life is hectic and you’re stressed out, you need to find something to enjoy together. Don’t let your life get in the way of your friendship.
You both deserve to be there for each other.
