How to Make a Friend Fall in Love with You

Written by Chloe M.

There’s always that one close friendship you have where people always mistake you as a couple. You’re joined at the hip, and lately, you’ve been doing everything in your power to keep it that way. You’ve been trying to figure out how to make a friend fall in love with you, because suddenly, you want more than friendship. With such a close bond already in place, there’s a high chance you can make them see you the way you see them, but you have to give them the opportunity to decide it for themselves. However, there are some ways you can hint and push them in the right direction.

Make sure you’re there for them

The main reason your friendship works is because you’re both there to support one another. You need to remain in their line of vision, especially when they’re struggling. Ensure you’re always there to pick them up when they fall, and it will remind them that you are the most supportive link they have in their life. Their trust is vital to allow love to flourish between you, so don’t ever neglect their needs. Make them your priority, the way you would a romantic partner. Even if it doesn’t lead to love, you’ll have built a stronger bond with your friend, and that can only be a good thing.

Don’t engage in conversations about their love life

This is the one place you can’t support them if you want to be their partner. It’s going to be hard enough listening to them talk about another love interest without you having to give them advice too. Set a line and make sure you never cross it. Relationships with other people should be a taboo subject from now on, even if your friend is desperate to talk about it. That’s a conversation they can have with another friend.

Learn from the mistakes of their ex

If your love interest’s ex was a bad person, make sure you don’t repeat any of their behaviours. It’ll be particularly raw for your love interest if you exhibit any of the same traits as they did. If they really hurt your friend, at least you know how to be better than them. Be yourself, and don’t try too hard to entice them. If it’s meant to be, it’ll come naturally without you having to do too much.

Create opportunities for romance or flirtation

The main difference between a romance and a close friendship is the flirtation. Test the waters carefully, and you’ll soon see how to make a friend fall in love with you. They’ll be drawn in by compliments, little touches of their hand, and flirtatious jokes. If they don’t seem into it, back off a little. They may just not be in the mood that day, or it might be a sign they’ve not discovered any romantic feelings yet. There’s still time, either way! Patience is key in this game.

How to make a friend fall in love: be your best self

People are good at spotting fakers a mile off. If you suddenly try to change who you are, the whole world will notice, not just your friend. Be yourself, and be the best possible version of yourself that you can muster. Don’t try too hard to be a certain way, or to impress them. There’s a reason you’re already friends, and straying too far from yourself will only make them see you as a different person. Treat them like you would any of your previous partners – with respect, love and kindness. What person can resist good behaviour like that?
